Return To Succes StoriesFrom the Family Car to Transitional Housing
Christina decided to move here with her four children to start a new life with her boyfriend.  After things soured and she experienced domestic abuse, she was forced out of her home with no choice but to live in the family car.  She and her four children lived in her Bonneville with nothing to eat but peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and with no place to take a shower.

After a few nights, Christina took her children to eat at the Salvation Army, and they directed her to KCR for assistance.  KCR arranged for her family to stay in a motel while the case managers started the process to obtain transitional housing for them. The WIC program provided her family with proper meals and nutrition.

After taking financial literacy classes through KCR, she is now better able to budget and save for her dream home. “I want stability for my children,” she said. She began carrying around her “little black book,” recording expenditures for coffee and candy that she realized really added up over time. After she gets her GED, she plans to become a dental hygienist or business owner.
